Being in remembrance and gratitude towards one’s ancestors is very important.

‘So tell me, does mankind behave like the scum of creation only because of lower energies, those negative energies working on people?’

‘No. Sometimes there is so much negative energy within the individual that there is no space for outside lower energies to even enter. An individual has the capability of being God incarnate or becoming the scum of creation. This ability only resides with mankind. No other species has the potential or ability to walk with the Gods or crawl into the depths of hell with Satan. The mind can be the harbinger of peace and sanity or the pit of depravity and madness. Thus, the individual can plummet into the abyss of decadence and he or she will be then ably helped by lower energies surrounding him or her. That is why it is so imperative to be calm, centred, silent, always in humble gratitude and spiritually always on your knees, with your forehead on the ground, in prayer. It is so important to be in prayer, I cannot emphasize this enough.’

‘You mean most important to be centred?’

‘Yes, crazy man, who keeps trying to kill himself.’

‘You said somewhere, let the world go upside down, you remain where you are . . . stand and stay at your own place, meaning . . . stand calmly and do not let anybody ruffle you . . . look calmly at the show of all things passing before you.’

‘Yes, and this can only happen when one is content with one’s lot; remember, however simple this statement may sound, one of the pillars of spirituality and the cornerstone of happiness is the graceful acceptance of one’s lot. Centredness is nothing but perfect surrender and being in glorious acceptance of one’s lot . . . but after giving your hundred per cent to life . . . after embracing your lot.

‘Where there is no centredness, then lower energies begin to breed, either within, or they crawl in from outside. The only way to go through life is to give your best and then leave the rest to Allah, God, Rama, Goddess, Master, the cosmos. Have you ever wondered why the neem tree under which I sat down, made some leaves, some bitter and some sweet? Neem leaves are one of the bitterest things created by the Almighty God. Bitterness often cleanses you of toxins that have collected within the body, slowly harming the vital organs in the body, slowly blocking the flow of oxygen, blood and prana, the very life force. But it is the very bitter taste in the neem leaf that contains life-enhancing qualities and flushes out impurities. When the Guru is involved, S(H)e can make some neem leaves bitter and some sweet. What was I trying to tell my people: that the leaves became sweet because I sat under the tree? No, you dehydrated mule. What I wanted to tell the people was that life is part sweet and part bitter.
